Water Lilies

I find the shore extremely interesting. I am endlessly fascinated with the plants and animals that inhabit these transitional places where a body of water meets the land. In this painting I interpret my impression of water lilies at the edge of a hidden cove in Knights Pond, where loons nest in the Spring and geese rest on their migratory flights.

First thing in the morning...

I start my day at my easel. Some days I use my indoor studio, other days I pack up and take it outside. Artwork is just that, work. Producing a work of art in any medium takes time. Being an artist takes commitment, discipline, and dedication, like any other job, or the day can easily be lost to other things. So I get up every morning and get to work.

Stonington Sunset

Sunset in Stonington, Maine at low tide was the inspiration for todays painting. The paint was applied with a palette knife for a rich overall texture, contrast, and solidity in the foreground rocks. The sky was softened a bit with a brush enhancing the sense of depth.
